Tuesday - Friday: Bring in your passport and Collect Stamps for the You Are Here! Summer Program. This will be the last week of the program, to earn stamps and to gain entry into the Big End of Summer Raffles. Find out more on our website.

Wednesday from 2:00pm - 4:00pm: Gaming Club

      Join Drummer Bob Bloom on his visit to Coventry. He will perform on many different types of
     drums and everyone will get a chance to play.
Friday from 4:00pm - 5:30pm: Chess Tournament
     Play against members of the Chess Club in this tournament style meeting.

Author Visit--Caragh O'Brien

 

Caragh O'Brien, author of the YA-Dystopian novel "Birthmarked" will be visiting the Booth & Dimock Memorial Library as part of the Connecticut Author's Trail on July 28th from 6:30pm -7:30pm

"Birthmarked" is the first in a planned trilogy and has been chosen by the YALSA Best Fiction for Young Adults, the ALA Amelia Bloomer Project, and the Texas Tayshas Reading List, and honored as a Junior Library Guild Selection. Rights have sold for the book in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain and China. Recently resigned from teaching English at Tolland High School.

Ms. O'Brien now writes full-time from her home in Storrs, Connecticut.

The second book in the trilogy, "Prized", is due out in November, 2011.
Copies of the Book are available at the Booth & Dimock Memorial Library. Ms. O'Brien will also be selling and autographing copies on July 28th.

Saturday from 10am - 3pm: National Smash--Battle against libraries from around the country in a nation wide Super Smash Bros Brawl Wii Tournament!

We have had a great week of Movie's at the Library. We have watched I Am Number Four and had one full day of the Harry Potter Movie Marathon--Part II is on July 14th.

Tonight is the last night to vote for our next movie on July 8th at 4pm. You Can VOTE HERE!

Required Summer Reading Books for the Coventry High School and Captain Nathan Hale Middle School can be found in the Booth & Dimock Memorial Library Teen Zone. 

Summer Reading Books for Coventry High School are located next to the Teen Services Desk. Look for the big purple letters on the window. If you want to search our catalog to find these books or place reserves, you can search with this keyword: "CHS2011" 

Teen Nutmeg Books for Captain Nathan Hale Middle School are located midway on the New Book Shelf, between Teen Audio Books and New Non Fiction. There are additional Intermediate Nutmeg Books in the Children's Room. You can search for and place reserves on these books by searching our catalog with the following keywords: "TNutmeg2012" or "JNutmeg2012" 

As always, ask if you have any problems, questions or concerns!

The Teen Librarian is avaliable to recommend books and help find articles. 
Just ask.

Teen Summer Reading

  
You may have scene last week's post about the Teen Summer Reading Prizes. They detail the possible prizes the Booth & Dimock Memorial Library will be handing out to those who participate in the 2011 Teen Summer Reading Program.

Known as You Are Here! this program is bringing several events just for Teens to the Library. Registration is requested, and you can sign up on the website too!

Additionally, there is a Library Challenge which you can sign up for at the Teen Services Desk.

Summer Reading Prizes

As part of the summer reading program, You Are Here!, teens, grades 6-12 can earn prizes three ways? Plus, everyone who earns 8 Stamps on their Passport, completing the You Are Here! Summer Reading Program will receive a book of their choice from the collection at the Teen Services Desk.


(1) There will be a weekly drawing after close of day on Saturdays. Winners will be contacted on Tuesdays. Simply place your name in the Globe each time you visit the library to be eligible*. 




Enter June 28-July 2 for the Enjoy Your Summer Prize, which includes a $5 Dunkin Donuts Gift Card, a Lava Lamp, $4 in Fine Funds, Glow Bracelets and an autographed copy of Nyx in the House of Night


Enter July 5-July 9 for the Express Yourself Prize, which includes a T-Shirt, Journal, $5 Dunkin Donuts Gift Card, Gel Pens, $4 in Fine Funds and more.

Enter July 12-July 16 for the Hogwarts Prize, which includes $4 in Fine Funds, copies of all 7 Harry Potter Books, a set of Harry Potter Magnets and a DVD of The Half Blood Prince.


Enter July 19-July 23 for the Gamer Prize, which includes, a card pack for Naruto Shippuden, Magic Cards, $4 in Fine Funds and a $15 Game Stop Gift Card.


Enter July 26-July 30 for the Music Lover Prize, which includes a $15 iTunes gift card, ear buds, glow bracelets, $4 in Fine Funds plus more.


Enter August 2-August 6 for the Crafty Prize, which includes a roll of tie-dye Duct Tape, two Duct Tape sheets, a pack of colored Sharpies, puffy paint, a Tie-Dye Kit and $4 in Fine Funds.


Enter August 9-August 13 for the Goof Ball Prize, which includes a $5 Dunkin Donuts Gift Card, a make it yourself Skate Park, a photo album, a Whoopee Cushion and $4 in Fine Funds.




August 16-August 20: Finish earning Stamps on your You Are Here! Passport and get your entries into the Big End of Summer Raffle.

(2) The Big End Of Summer Prizes will be Drawn on August 23. Entries must be submitted by August 20th. 




There will be three prizes drawn in the Big End of Summer Raffle--Earn your Stamps for entries.

8 Stamps earns 1 Entry---Each additional Stamp earns an additional Entry!!!!

Prize Includes: 2 DVDs, a Comic Book, Popcorn, $4 Fine Funds and a gift card to the Movies



Back to School Jackpot

Prize Includes: A Book Journal, $4 Fine Funds, a $25 Barnes and Noble Gift Card, and a bag stuffed with Advanced Reader's Copies of books not yet published.



(3) Read 10 Books to earn the Book Lovers Bonus Stamp. TD Bank will deposit $10 into a new or existing Young Saver Account when a Teen under 18 reads 10 books as part of a library summer reading program.
