Reading with the Teen Librarian: "Between"

Between, by Jessica Warman, is about a girl who on her 18th birthday goes to investigate the noise outside her families boat and sees herself, dead in the water. Her friends and family are devastated, and she is around to watch all their grief. What could make it worse? A snarky teenage boy--the only other member of her high school to die within the last year--the victim of a late night hit-and-run and a complete and total lack of recent memories.

No its not a romance, like I expected it to be--and I really did until almost half way through, but a book about looking back at life. Neither Liz nor Alex know who killed them/ how they died or what they are supposed to do now that they are dead. They follow around Liz's friends and family as they find out more about Liz and the secrets she was keeping.

Between deals with tough issues, but its a great read. My only complaint, I couldn't make myself like Liz, even though I really really wanted to. She was Miss. Popular, rich and beautiful. Liz's step-sister was her best friend and her boyfriend since seventh grade lived right next door. That's not to say she had a perfect life--far from it. Rumors flew about her family and oh yeah, she was dead, had no idea how or why or what had happened in the last year.

Available at the Booth & Dimock Memorial Library through Inter-Library Loan.
