This Saturday is the Mexican holiday of Cinco de Mayo (the Fifth of May). Contrary to what many people believe, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence day; rather, it celebrates the victory of the Mexican army over a larger French force in 1862. Today Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in the United States as an expression of Mexican heritage and pride.
